On behalf of a fast-growing insurance business, I am seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to play a key role within the Analytics Development team. You will design and implement tooling for deploying and managing reliable and scalable applications spanning on-premises and cloud hosts, operating in a largely Microsoft tech stack environment.
Whilst the organisation is pleased to offer this role hybrid (3 days per week), you will be required to initially work 5 days during your probation period. In return the organisation offer excellent benefits alongside a very generous annual discretionary bonus scheme.
Responsibilities:
- IT Infrastructure and development support to internal analytics stakeholders
- Ensure optimal availability and performance of infrastructure components and applications
- Create and manage build pipelines in ADO, leveraging IAC (Terraform) templates
- Maintain networking between on-prem and external systems (Microsoft Fabric, Verisk, etc.)
- Act as a key internal technical resource for major change projects
- Work with 3rd party vendors to ensure service provision and project delivery meet expectations
- Act as an escalation point for complex support issues
- Support the engineering team and technical business users during scoping, design and implementation of new systems, including estimation of projects and tasks
- Produce and maintain high quality system and project documentation
- Monitor efficiency of resource utilisation of delivered systems
- Monitor incoming security threat alerts and act when required
- Provide regular feedback to Management for projects, incident management and change management, as well as defining and reporting KPIs
- Work closely with other technology teams (internal and external), tech architects and business owners to refine requirements and translate business needs into IT solutions
- Ensure there is an approach of continuous improvement and implementation of best practice
- Create a supportive and rewarding working environment that aligns with the company culture as well as instilling a sense of ownership, accountability and technical excellence in the engineering team
- Deliver long term technology effectiveness, simplicity of solutions and appropriate controls.
Experience/skills required:
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in a DevOps Engineer capacity essentially within a financial services envrionment (eg Banking or insurance)
- Strong customer-oriented mindset and ability to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with proven ability to influence change
- Ability to run and manage change processes efficiently, aligning with other teams as needed
- Strong leadership skills, an innovation mindset and experience as a proactive team player
- Take ownership of your work and responsibility for outcomes delivering key projects
- Work closely with technical leadership and peers to create product roadmaps, estimate work packages and set priorities.
Specific Technical skills:
- Strong windows OS systems administration knowledge (inc. Windows Server)
- Deep experience managing Windows domain environments at an advanced level (Active Directory, Group Policy, Certificate Service etc)
- Excellent Azure administration and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) skills
- Extensive experience working in and undertaking migrations in a heavily virtualised environment and with configuring and managing container orchestration solutions, ideally Kubernetes
- Previous experience administering and maintaining Storage Area Networks
- Basic SQL server administration including installation, access management and backups/restores
- Good general knowledge of network administration (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS)
- Good experience with application packaging and deployment
- Previous experience working of firewall, switch, or Router administration
- Demonstrable experience of working with an identity & access management solution (such as OneLogin, Duo, Okta, ADFS).
