On behalf of a growing insurance business, I am seeking a Senior Modern Desktop Engineer to play a key role in the technology team. You will provide 3rd line Support and management to 500+ users in UK & Ireland. A key focus will be designing/delivering high quality EUC to IT and the business. The successful candidate will work in a proactive and cooperative manner to ensure exceptional service and project delivery.
You will be operating in a Microsoft tech stack environment with a mix of on-prem and cloud (Azure) hosting.
Due to the client facing nature of the role, you will be required on site 5 days per week.
Responsibilities:
- Provision of BAU EUC to executive and to internal stakeholders
- Own the EUC and Modern Desktop Environment, managing Scope, design and implement new systems and services
- Ensure optimal availability and performance of critical infrastructure components and applications
- Act as an escalation point for complex support issues
- Act as a key internal technical resource for major change projects
- Work closely with 3rd party vendors to ensure service provision and project delivery meet or exceed business expectations
- Monitor the overall health of the infrastructure and responding to alerts as required
- Produce and maintain high quality system and project documentation
- Monitor incoming security threat alerts and act when required
- Provide regular feedback to the Head of IT and Operations, incident management and change management
- Work closely with other technology teams (internal and external), tech architects and business owners to refine requirements and translate business needs into IT solutions
- Effective documentation of relevant tools and reports
- Create a supportive and rewarding working environment that aligns with the company culture as well as instilling a sense of ownership, accountability and technical excellence in your team driving efficient processes and constantly push engineering best practice
- Monitor efficiency of resource use and efficiency of delivered systems
- Regular progress reporting, defining and reporting KPIs and key objective/result metrics including helping your team define, drive and achieve their objectives and key results
- Keep stakeholders up to date on all activities that affects their individual goals and be a point contact for work status.
Experience/Skills required:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar technical role
- Strong customer service mentality with the ability to develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels
- Expert knowledge of Windows client operating systems (Windows 10/11) and strong familiarity with Windows Server for supporting domain services.
- Advanced experience managing Windows domain environments (Active Directory, Group Policy, Certificate Services) with a focus on user and device management.
- Strong Microsoft 365 and Azure administration skills, including Intune (Endpoint Manager), Exchange Online, Teams, and security/compliance features.
- Experience with modern device management and deployment solutions, such as Autopilot, Intune.
- Proficient in application packaging and deployment using tools like, Intune, or patch my PC.
- Skilled in patch management and update deployment for Windows endpoints.
- Good understanding of identity and access management solutions (eg, Azure AD, Conditional Access, MFA).
- Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS) relevant to endpoint connectivity and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with endpoint security solutions, including antivirus, encryption, and compliance policies.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written with proven ability to influence change.
- You should be able to communicate clearly and with purpose, working effectively with team members and stakeholders across the organisation.
